Antique Handlan St. Louis Railroad Lantern

  

On the base, it says, stolen from laclede gaslight co. Anyone know why that is on the base???

Missing the cap on the base btw... About 10inches tall, diameter of base is approx 6.5 inches. The red glass globe is in good condition, no cracks or chips that i can see.
